Wedding One
Friday, February 11, 2011 at 10:11PM As of today, there are – (checking the clock) - 77 days until the wedding. Woo Hood!!
Okay, kind of an enthusiastic opening.
Anyway, more details are available, and continue to become available, courtesy of la twitter. How cool is that, by the way- the biggest public event for the Royals in known memory, and they are releasing news to the world via social media! Talk about modern!
True to form, in keeping with the ideal of being the modern power couple, William and Kate have had a lot of say ion terms of putting their own personal touches on the wedding. First things first, the dress- according to most reports, Kate has been putting in a lot of time with the designer she has chosen- the identity of whom, of course, no one knows. Yet, anyway. Something is definitely happening in whatever office she keeps going to, though, because the rumour mill has stepped up- and the rumour is that a slim fit will be the order of the day. Nothing like the frosted cupcake of a dress that Diana wore-(and really, can anyone top that dress? Mind you, if anyone did, it’d be Kate). It’s likely, though, that she’ll have to conform to some points of propriety- shoulders covered, that sort of thing. Maybe a scarf would do the trick. How modern do you think you could get if you were getting married in Westminster Abbey?
And yes, they are getting married in that Holy of Holies of the Anglican Church. One reason is because of the tradition of Royals getting married there, obviously; another is that they most likely want to lessen the comparisons to Charles and Diana’s wedding. The third point, of course, is that Westminster Abbey only seats 2200 people (!)-less that St Paul’s. The young couple are said to be attempting as much consciousness of the present world environment as possible.
They’re pulling that element into other aspects of the wedding as well. Since William is patron of a number of charities, there is a more than likely chance that there will be a strong representative presence from those charities invited to the wedding. Also, William and Kate have reportedly requested that, in lieu of gifts, people make charitable donations, which seems to be a popular and well accepted choice.
Obviously, charitable representatives wouldn’t be the only major presence at the Royal Wedding- we can assume that a strong cross section of European and other World royal houses will be in attendance as well. Right now, there are only ten actual reigning royal houses in Europe, but there are enough dispossessed royalty for there to be two thousand people in line to the British throne, according to Wikipedia. It’s a good thing they don’t have to invite every single one. At best, they’ll probably invite a few hundred people.
According to sources, budget for said wedding is $15 million(!). Normally, according to tradition, the bride’s family pays for most of the wedding. (cue hysterical laughter…now.) I think we can safely assume that the Royals will actually be picking up most of the tab.
Interestingly enough, this technically isn’t a state wedding. It only qualifies as a state wedding if a ruling sovereign or their immediate heirs are getting married. So, the public is egging about security costs , which means her Majesty is graciously shouldering most of it herself- the public, however, may still be on the hook for some of the security costs and such. It’s a good thing the revenues generating from the wedding and its hyoe are predicted into the range of the hundreds of millions.
On a final note- one other rumor was that Charles would give up his beloved Highgrove as a wedding gift for the couple. Ha! Charles will not give up his organic veggies or the plants with whom he likes to converse. Its more likely that, if he does give them a house, it’ll be Harewood, the estate about 18 miles away that Charles has been having renovated.
