June 10th Protest Invitation

You have been invited to a protest march during the Conservative Party’s National Convention at the Ottawa Convention Centre. The protest has been promoted by a number of progressive organizations that invite the people of Ottawa to ”give the Tories the
welcome they deserve.”

Student groups, workers unions, feminist organizations, anarchists, First Nations people, anti-capitalist networks, migrant justice groups, anti-poverty organizations, disability rights movements, Palestine solidarity activists, Native warriors and
anti-war organizers have been invited to show the Harper Government that the next four years will not be taken lightly.

The Harper Government has stirred new levels of activism in the Canadian people, awakening many from their apathy and consumer slumber. This past week Senate page, Brigette Marcelle DePape, initiated a culture jam in the Senate Chamber while Gov. Gen. David Johnston read the new government’s speech from the throne, holding a stop sign that read “Stop Harper.” Her position as a Senate page was terminated as a result.

Those who do not understand the impact of a culture jam have criticized this brave act, calling it disrespectful. What Brigette Marcelle has done is bring much needed attention to what the next four years will be like under the Harper Government, continuing their hidden agenda and keeping the public at ease with their calming words of progress and focus on the economy.

On June 10th the people will rally for change.
