Provincial Elections -- The Future of Clean Energy
Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 4:16PM The 40th Ontario general election will be held on October 6, 2011. The future of Ontario’s Green Energy and Green Economy Act will be determined by the outcome of this election. What happens to the Act after provincial elections in October has been described as the single most influential event in the future of clean energy in Ontario.
Ecology Ottawa is looking for writers and editors to help with their clean energy campaign. Shortsighted business interests plan to stop clean energy developments, opposing for immediate financial gains rather than the health and well being of future generations.
The clean energy campaign pushes for energy systems that are maximally efficient and 100% green energy. Our current energy system is responsible for 65% of greenhouse gases produced around the world. If actions are not taken now the earth will suffer irreversible impacts. Implementing clean energy strategies in Ontario is one thing that can be done locally to mitigate the impacts of climate change we will face in the future.
Ecology Ottawa’s writing team was started to help engage volunteers with clean energy issues in media. Many media sources are giving readers conflicting information on clean energy and are not acknowledging the need for a clean energy future. EO writers are spreading positive messages about clean energy in attempt to gain public support for the cause, scanning headlines and looking for media reports on green energy. Ending the Green Energy and Green Economy Act would mean becoming even more dependent on dirty energy sources.
By letting shortsighted financial interests take away our opportunity to create a clean future and avoid more damage to our families and ecosystems, we risk prolonging the international war for foreign energy sources. To propel the clean energy campaign leading up to the provincial election, Ecology Ottawa is looking for writers and researchers to keep the Green Energy and Green Economy Act alive.
